The Last Leg.

So, after Hoop's parents said goodbye and I thanked them profusely for their kindness, I waited for about an hour for the train. I checked my luggage on this time, wanting to spare myself the debacle of lugging both a massive suitcase and a huge box on board with my puny insect limbs.

Was sitting next to a young guy who had just graduated his paratrooper training. We chatted a little bit, then a call came through about people moving up one carriage. See, this train had been sitting in the yard all day, and our carriage was really warm. So they offered people a chance to swap to a cooler one. Meh, I'd been finding myself shivering a lot due to air-con lately, so I elected to stay. Besides which, I like warmth. We'd also been told that by NY, the train would be full.. hardly. Noone sat next to me the rest of the trip, so I rested fairly well. I spent most of the trip idly gazing out the windows, dozing, or trying to read. I didn't really get much into the book on the way home. Dunno why. Probably my head full of thoughts of the people and places I'd seen.

MMMMM. WE
ARE HERE.

Got into NY around 2pm, where Tonyfitz met me, and we headed back to Christina's. He had to take his parents to the airport in the morning, so he didn't stay the night. The three of us went and saw "Signs", (and he and I tortured Christina with imitations of the aliens repeatedly), and then she and I crashed out at her place. The next morning, she had work, so I pottered around, checking my stuff was in order before Ant came to get me. We stopped by some stores (whereupon I stumbled upon the one toy I'd been hunting for my girlfriend the whole time in a clearance bin), had a last meal at Wendy's (ate some massive triple-cheese-burger thing - I could feel the arteries hardening in my chest), and then to JFK. Got through the queue, said my last goodbyes and thankyous to Tonyfitz, and then went to the lounge and waited.

This was a huge playground at a Burger King. It blew my mind... until I saw the McDonald's two doors down with the same thing.

NY to LA was pretty uneventful, save gazing out at the storm alongside my side of the plane. Storms can sometimes unsettle me - this one did to a degree, what with being on a plane and all. But since we were skirting around it, I could gaze at the bolts and appreciate them more. Got into LA, had to disembark while they refueled, chatted to another passenger, then we heard the dreaded call - "There will be an hour's delay." Then five minutes later, they started boarding us. *shrug*

LA to Sydney was mainly spent watching the terrible in-flight films - "The Scorpion King", for instance, and idly dozing again. Most of the flight was at night, so nothing neat to look at. Got into Sydney around 7:30am their time, went to get my stuff for the transfer. On the bus between terminals, joked with another women who commented that if she fell out the opening door, I'd have to grab her, to which I commented that they open inwards, so she'd be crushed instead.

Went and found some food to eat, wandered back to the lounge, and she was there again, so we chatted some more about where we were going, where we'd been and all. Chatted about the museum, since she'd never been there, etc.

The Pacfic Ocean, from
some 37000 feet.

Visually, there was nothing between Antarctica and I, save the distance.

The southern coastline
of Western Australia.

Boarded at 9am or so, and was back home in Perth at the exact time (odd, since we were a little late from each other point) of 12:15pm, where my housemate and girlfriend were waiting for me.

Home, unpack, and sloth around, so as to try to avoid any sudden jet-lag attacks.

And there ends the lesson, the Tale of Sir Finback, and His Voyages Across The Seas.

Good times, good friends.
(Shouts out to all #wiigii!, their families. You guys rock my world).
