In Training

I awoke sometime around 7 am on the train from Chicago, to see this alongside me on another train.

Truly good advice.

The ride had been.. awkward, really. The night was spent intermittently dozing, and reading LOTR. I'd done some pre-emptory foodgathering, Tonyfitz having warned me of the prices. I'd bought myself a huge bag of beef jerky, which kept me well sated. There was also a bottle of Cherry Vanilla Groove Frutopia I was saving as long as possible. My two favouritest flavours on the planet, in one mix.

My bag weighed a tonne - I'd packed in everything I'd bought in New York, with a few small exceptions, like a stuffed baboon for me, and a Stitch doll for my girlfriend. I'd thought that I had purchased a sleeping berth, but sadly, not the case. So I spent my ride rocking to and fro, and gazing out the window at the mid-west. A lot of it made me think of driving down south around here, and how you've gone through a town before you realise it was there.

Walky was waiting for me at the other end, even though I was an hour or more late - he'd gotten stuck in traffic, and was running late. Perfect timing.

Chicago

This part of my trip is kind of blurred, as I started losing interest and the time to spend working on my journal. So here's what I actually wrote in my notebook:

[My added notes]

"23/7, 10:40pm. We drove to Indiana today, to swap cars for the trip. Met Walky's dad - nice guy. Watched the Clerks animated series too [Hell yes. This show was brilliant. I must get my own copy] . Picked up Red Alert[ I passed on Starscream for a very noble reason :). Windchaser. Y'see, they had two Red Alerts, and two Starscreams. And Walky and I agreed that Windy would probably be thrilled to find a Starscream waiting for her when she reached the apartment], mailed a huge box of stuff home [to the tune of $48US]. Hopefully, I can make it to BotCon without spending any more. I like it more out here - it is less hectic and rushed, and people are much friendlier [ people would, in lines in stores, start conversations with me that lasted several minutes]. I had a terrific night's sleep last night. Tomorrow, Windy flies in - whee!"

"25/7, 8:33am. Yesterday we picked up Windy, and did some assorted shopping; I bought comparatively little - hooray! We leave at about 1am tonight for BC. I made dinner last night [yeah, a pasta bake that couldn't turn out since Walky lacks even a baking dish *stab stab*]. Today, we're off to the Field Museum to see Sue the tyrannosaur. Another week and a half before I am home again. I guess this is some sort of halfway point."

Move over, Rescue Roy, there's
a new guy in town the kids love!

Oddly, I HATE this place.

ARRRRR! Long John Silver is the BEST place to eat on the planet.

Eat at Joe's...Eat at Joe's...
Eat at Joe's... Eat at Joe's...

Walky and Windchaser!
